General Cartwright retired from active duty in 2011 after four decades of service in the United States Marine Corps, most recently serving as the Vice Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff from 2007 to 2011, across two Presidential administrations. He previously served as the Commander of US Strategic Command from 2004 to 2007. Cartwright began his forty-year career in the Marine Corps in 1971 and is widely recognized for his technical acumen and vision of future national security concepts.
